About Us

About African Queer Voices (AQV).

African Queer Voices (AQV) is a New York City–based nonprofit organization uplifting African queer writers, artists, and storytellers through storytelling, creative expression, and advocacy. We create safe, affirming, and transformative spaces where African queer voices are heard, honored, and shared across borders.

AQV centers dignity, healing, and representation by amplifying narratives that have long been silenced or erased. Through literature, performance, community dialogue, and cultural advocacy, we ensure African queer stories shape culture, influence public understanding, and contribute meaningfully to global human-rights conversations.

African Queer Voices is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. Our work bridges art and activism, empowering communities while preserving stories as tools for resistance, visibility, and collective liberation.

Complementarity with VEHRA Uganda

AQV works in collaboration with VEHRA (Visual Echoes for Human Rights Advocacy) and other emerging African queer–led organizations to strengthen cross-border exchange rooted in lived experience, cultural expression, and solidarity-based advocacy.

While AQV operates independently as a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, our partnership with VEHRA reflects a shared commitment to amplifying African queer voices, advancing creative resistance, and building transnational networks of care and cultural power.
