AQV Joins Refugee Leadership and Migration Conversations During UNGA 2026

During UN General Assembly week in New York, African Queer Voices joined R-SPACE at The New School for conversations centered on refugee leadership, asylum, migration, and the narratives shaping public perceptions of displaced communities.
The discussions explored the policy choices and public costs surrounding asylum and migration, as well as the role of media and politics in shaping how refugees and migrants are understood.
For AQV, these conversations are deeply connected to our work with African LGBTQ+ immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Too often, the people most affected by displacement and migration policies are discussed without their experiences and leadership being meaningfully represented.
We value spaces that bring refugee perspectives into broader policy and public conversations, and we remain committed to ensuring that African LGBTQ+ voices are part of those discussions.
